SASSO at FAO Forum: Shaping Poultry Development in Africa

SASSO recently took part in the International Forum on Small-Scale Poultry and Feed Value Chains in Africa, hosted by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) in Entebbe, Uganda, on May 7–8, 2025.

Improving food security, nutrition, and livelihoods in Africa remains a top priority

The forum aimed to highlight the importance of market-oriented poultry systems as a solution to these challenges. Participants explored key opportunities and challenges in developing and transforming small-scale poultry farming across the continent. The event also promoted sharing of experiences and closer cooperation between public and private partners in the African poultry and feed sectors.

As a global leader in colored broilers genetics, SASSO was proud to contribute to this impactful conference. Discussions during the two-day forum emphasized the need for public-private collaboration, investment in local hatcheries, feed innovation, and enhanced animal health services and poultry genetics in Africa. As one of the few genetics companies present, and a dual-purpose birds provider, we as SASSO were able to strengthen our long-term commitment to support rural poultry development in Africa, working hand in hand with local partners and institutions.

The forum ended with clear priority actions and a strategic roadmap to support the sustainable development of poultry and feed value chains in Africa.

These outcomes will guide future policies and investments across the continent. For SASSO, this event marked a key milestone in strengthening our presence in Africa. It reaffirmed our commitment to understanding local challenges and delivering proven, practical poultry solutions tailored to the needs of African farmers.
